Monday, Nov. 17

Highlights:

  • This morning, during Health we read a story called "The Giving Tree: A Retelling of a Traditional Métis story." While reading, we talked about reciprocity and the importance of giving back. Ask me to tell you about the story and why its important to give back to nature/our community. 
  • We started learning soccer skills in P.E. Ask me what skills we practiced today!
  • During Literacy, we learned about "show don't tell" descriptive writing. We read a book called "Hello Ocean" to see how we can use our senses to describe a setting before using our senses to describe a picture. Ask me about the pictures and how I described them using my senses. 



  • In Math, we read "Welcome to the Nature Park" to explore statistics! We looked at a variety of different types of graphs throughout the story to determine if the rangers should chose a turtle or coyote to rescue. Ask me to tell you what animal I think they should choose and why based on the data. 
  • For Social Studies, we glued a map of Alberta into our visual journals. We will be studying the different regions over the next little while. 
  • We had a fire drill today! Ask me what I need to remember during fire drills.

      Highlights:

  • This morning, we had some finish up time to make sure we have everything completed. Ask me what I worked on today.  
  • We had Music! Ask me what activities we did today. 
  • During Literacy, we started working on our "Guess My Gourd" writing. Today, we made a planning web of the different adjectives we could use to describe the gourds we had. Ask me to tell you about my gourd and the adjectives I used in my planning web. 


  • For Math, we practiced our skip counting with number sequences. Ask me to show you my skip counting skills! We then learned how to find 10/100 more than or less than a number. Ask me to solve the questions below. 




  • In Science, we learned about the water cycle. Ask me to tell you about the cycle using the words below!

      Highlights:

  • This morning, we practiced our cursive writing during Word Work. Today we learned d, q, g, and c. Ask me to show you them!
  • During Literacy, we learned about Remembrance Day. To show our learning, we created a visual journal page. Ask me to tell you what I learned and included on my page!
  • We had our Grade 3 Recess! Ask me what I played. 
  • During Art, we made our backgrounds for our poppy art. Ask me what medium I used. 
  • For Math, we played math games. Ask me what game I played and what skills I Practice with it. 




Reminders
  • There is no school Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday next week. School starts again on Thursday Nov. 13. Have a great break!

Thursday, Nov. 6

     Highlights:

  • This morning, we continued to work on our zones of regulation visual journal pages!
  • Today was our last day of handball! 
  • During Literacy, we wrote about our adjective monsters! Ask me what I wrote to help the reader visualize my monster. 
  • For Math, we learned how to round number to the nearest ten and nearest hundred. Ask me to tell you the round rule!
  • After Recess, we read a story called A Poppy is to Remember and talked about what the poppy represents. We then started an art project using Pastels. Ask me what were making!






REMEMBRANCE DAY

Remembrance Day, Field of Crosses, We Will Never Forget

Students are engaging in a variety of learning activities related to Remembrance Day on Friday, November 7 as there is no school on November 11.  Poppy stickers (provided by the Royal Canadian Legion) will be handed out to all students. If you would like to send a donation for the poppy sticker, it will be collected by teachers and sent to the Royal Canadian Legion. These donations provide grants / supports to veterans and their families. Click HERE to learn more.

Wednesday, Nov. 5

    Highlights:

  • This morning, we started working on our zones of regulation visual page. Ask me what I added!
  • We played Handball again in P.E. Ask me to tell you what my favourite part is about the sport.
  • During Literacy, we read a story called "Hairy, Scary, Ordinary" and created adjective monsters that we are going to use to write about tomorrow. Ask me about my monster and the adjectives I used to describe it. 




  • For Math, we did a What One Doesn't Belong coin warm up and then learned how to count dollars. Ask me to show you my skills at home!

  • We checked on our experiment from yesterday and observed the solid jello! We wrote about the different states of matter we saw during the experiment in our journals. Ask me to tell you about the experiment!
  • We started learning about Alberta's land during Social Studies! Ask me to tell you about some of the landmarks we saw!

   Highlights:

  • This morning, we reviewed the zones of regulation to make a visual journal page. Ask me to tell you 3 emotions that go in each zone!
  • We are learning a new song in Music. Ask me to tell you about it. 
  • During Literacy, we finished our adjectives page. Ask me to tell you the different adjectives we used to describe the nouns. 
  • For Math, we practiced skip counting and then used our skills to count a collection of coins. Ask me to show you my skills with a small handful of cent coins. 
  • In Science, we did an experiment with jello to see the different states of matter and how they can change. Ask me to tell you what we saw so far!

  • This morning, we read our class novel Third Grade Angels. Ask me to tell you about what has happened so far in the book. 
  • In P.E., we played Handball. Ask me to tell you about the rules. 
  • During Literacy, we talked about adjectives. Ask me what adjectives do and some examples. 
  • For Math, we practiced ordering numbers from least to greatest and greatest to least. Ask me what three digit numbers I can make with the digits below and to put them in oder. 
  • In Science, we learned about changing states of matter. Ask me to tell you what the words below mean.
