Thursday, Sept. 24

     Highlights:

• This morning during Music, we joined the other Grade 3 classes to learn about the Mid Autumn Moon Festival. We then got to create our own moon cakes during Art. Ask me to tell you what I learned about the celebration and my moon cake!

• Ask me what game we played in P.E.
• In Math, we used a website to better understand the relationship between the different place values. Ask me to tell you what I learned and to show you how to use it.

• This afternoon, we learned about collaboration by listening to a story called "Collaboration Station". We then work in groups to make a creation using a paper plate. Ask me what it means to be a good team member and what we made while collaborating!

September 30th is a National Day for Truth and Reconciliation meant to commemorate the history and legacy of Residential Schools in Canada. On Tuesday, September 29th, students are encouraged to wear an orange shirt or something else with orange to recognize Orange Shirt Day and the National Truth and Reconciliation Day.


Students will be engaging in learning throughout the week to honor this important day. Through read alouds and learning tasks, students will focus on understanding what they each need to feel safe and cared for at school and to consider this question: “What action can each member of our school community do to make sure every student feels safe and cared for at school, everyday?” This is an opportunity for Northern Lights students and staff to come together in the spirit of reconciliation to show their support of a safe, respectful and caring school community.

Wednesday, Sept. 23

    Highlights:

• This morning, we had time to work on finish up. Ask me what I did. 
• For Literacy, we practiced visualizing in our new reading journals. Ask me what I drew while listening to our novel.
• We played Boom City in P.E. Ask me to tell you the rules
• In Math, we played a game called Race to 1000 to practice regrouping with Base 10 blocks. Ask me to tell you about the game. 

• During Social Studies we learned about Orange Shirt Day. Ask me about the activity we did.

Tuesday, Sept. 22

   Highlights:

• This morning during Health, we read the Magical YET and talked about growth mindsets. We started making a visual journal page. Ask me to tell you about it. 

• We practiced over hand throwing in P.E. 
•  In Math, we learned about Base 10 blocks and practiced representing numbers using them. Ask me to show you how draw each place value using the blocks.

• During Social Studies, we learned about the Medicine Wheel. Ask me about the different sections and what I am putting in each one to take care of myself.

Thursday, Sept. 17

 Highlights:

• This morning during Health, we talked about questions vs. comments. We also talked about when it is a good time to ask questions and what makes a good question. Ask me to give you a summery (the key ideas)!
• During Literacy, we learned about Terry Fox and read a book about him. We then created our own book about his dreams. Ask me to tell you some things about him and his dreams. 

• We met our buddy class today and did an activity with them. Ask me to tell you about it. 

• We talked about the different ways we can represent a number and practiced using the place value chart. Ask me how I feel about numbers so far!

• This afternoon, we had our Terry Fox run. Ask me how many laps I ran!

• We had some finish up time. Ask me what I worked on.
  
• For Social Studies, we talked about quality of life. Ask me about the scenarios we read as a class.

Thursday, Sept. 16

Highlights:

• This morning, we worked on a Terry Fox colouring page for our visual journals!  
• During Art, we created the background for our pumpkin art. Ask me to tell you about my design. 
• In Music, we learned about our national anthem O' Canada. Ask me to tell you about it. 

• We played Last Person Standing elimination  in P.E. Ask me to tell you the rules.
  
• In Math, we practiced place value. Ask me to show you how to use the chart and the value of the underlined digits in the number below. 

• This afternoon, we learned about the library expectations. Ask me to tell you some. 

• We wrote about our brain art that we made. Ask me what I wrote!

     Highlights:

• This morning, we read "The World Needs More Purple Schools" and talked about ways we can make NLS a purple school. Ask me what it means to be purple and some ways we can make NLS more purple. 

• During Literacy, we started reviewing digraph sounds. 
• We played a new tag game today in P.E. Ask me to tell you about it. 

• We started our afternoon with reading to self and on Epic. Ask me about the books I read today.
• In Math, we did a Dot Day inspired math activity. Ask me to tell you about it!

• During Art, we learned about Dot Day and an artist who used dots to make beautiful art! Ask me to tell you about the day and my art.

• Our school is collecting Toonies for Terry! We are collecting donations this week before our run on Thursday.

Thursday, Sept. 10

   Highlights:

• During Health, we read "All Are Welcome" and made our own puzzle pieces that will be apart of a class puzzle. Ask me what I added to mine. 

• We had our first music class today. Ask me about the expectations during Music!

• We played revenge tag and four corners in P.E. Ask me to tell you about it.
• In Math, we practiced using the place value chart to represent numbers. Ask me to show you the one I made. 

• During Social Studies, we wrote about a problem in our community and what we could do to make a positive impact. Ask me what I chose!
• This afternoon, we learned about the different ways our brain can learn for our art project. Ask me what my top 3 are!
