Friday, Oct. 31

  Highlights:

  • This morning during our morning work, we designed a pumpkin! We then talked about statistics and collected data on what design we wanted to use for our class pumpkin. Ask me to tell about the designs and tally marks!



  • For Field Study, we cut open a pumpkin and did a bio fact. Ask me to tell you about the different parts of the pumpkin.


  • We worked on our Zentangle pumpkin art from yesterday. Ask me what designs I chose!
  • In Science, we learned about materials that act like more than one state of matter. We then did a fun halloween experiment. Ask me to tell you what we made and how it acts like both a solid and liquid. The video is below if we want to try it at home. 


  • We played our math "I Have, Who Has" game. Ask me how I feel about reading numbers in their Base-10 form.
  • After our grade 3 recess, we did a class swap. Ask me if I did Makers Space or watched a video.

Wednesday, Oct. 29

 Highlights:

  • This morning during Health, we talked about what what our classroom should feel like, look like, and sound like. Ask me to tell you what I think. 
  • In P.E., we talked about the three R's and played a game called Trick or Treat. Ask me to tell you about the three R's and my favourite part of our game. 

  • During Literacy, we wrote about our time off!
  • For Math, we did a what one doesn't belong and learned how to play "I have, who has".  Ask me about the game. We also reviewed how to represent numbers in their base 10 form.


  • During our reading rotations, we read to self and to a buddy. We also got to go to the library. 
  • In Science, we learned about the states of matter. Ask me to show you solid, liquid, and gas molecules with my hands.


Reminders
  • Halloween is this Friday! Students are welcome to dress up in their Costumes or wear orange and black clothing. Costumes must not interfere with learning and must be comfortable enough to be able to fully participate in the learning day. Students can not wear face masks, bring accessories (ie. weapons), spend instructional time putting on costumes or makeup, and/or bring candy/treats to share.

   Highlights:

  • This morning, we made perspective autumn art using paints, q-tips, sharpies, and pencils. Ask me how we used the materials to make it look like we were looking up at the trees. 


  • During Math, we learned a new math game called fill the stairs to help us practice ordering numbers. Ask me to show you how to play!
  • We enjoyed the beautiful weather during our recess.
  • For Markers' Space, we used different materials to build with and explore. Ask me what I used today!

Thursday, Oct. 2

  Highlights:

  • This morning during Health, we reviewed what it means to regulate. Ask me what it means to regulate and some things we can regulate!
  • During Music, we used the BoomWhackers! Ask me what songs we played. 
  • For Literacy, we learned about simple and compound sentences. We practiced making compound sentences using our FANBOYS conjunctions. Ask me about the sentences I made using the picture!


  • This Afternoon, we took our class photos!
  • For Math, we learned how to compare numbers using greater than, less than, and equal symbols. Ask me to compare the numbers below!
  • For Science, we learned about some processed items Indigenous groups made with different natural materials. Ask me to give you an example!

Wednesday, Oct. 1

 Highlights:

  • This morning during Health, we reviewed the different zone of regulation. Ask me to tell you the four different zones and to give you an example of an emotion that goes in each!
  • During P.E., we played a new game called Tower Defence. Ask me to tell you what skills it helps me practice.

  • For Literacy, we learned about conjunctions. We used FANBOYS to help us remember some of the common ones. Ask me to tell you about them!


  • For Math, we practiced representing numbers by doing a Place Value Scoot. Ask me to tell you about the activity. 

  • We got our October writing menu during Reading Rotations. Ask me about the new things I can write about. 
  • For Social Studies, we talked about Albertans. We wrote down what we already know and what we wonder. Ask me to tell you what I know and want to know. 
  • This afternoon, we reviewed the trigraphs -TCH and - DGE. Ask me to tell you the rule.

Thursday, Sept. 25

Highlights:

  • This morning during Health, we made our Orange Shirt Day ribbons for tomorrow. On the ribbon we wrote how we want to feel/how all children should feel at school. Ask me what I wrote. 
  • We had our first music sharing! Ask me if I shared today.
  • For Literacy, we reviewed the rest of our digraphs. Ask me to tell you the what the digraphs were, the sounds they make, and what words I wrote!
  • For Math, we practiced representing numbers in word form, standard form, and expanded form. We solved puzzles and used a new tool called place value disks. Ask me to tell you about the activities. 

  • During our reading rotations, some of us got to go to the library for the first time! 
  • This afternoon, we read the book called Buffalo Wild and hung our respect stars in the prairie. We also got to see our buffalo rope and touch it with gentle hands. Ask me to show you at the Open House today! 



Reminders
  • Today is our Welcome to the New Year Open House! It will be running between 5:00 - 7:00pm. Families are welcome to drop in at anytime during the 2-hour period.
  • Tomorrow is Orange Shirt Day. Students are encouraged to wear anything orange if they do not have an orange shirt.
  • There is no school Monday or Tuesday next week.

Highlights:

  • This morning, we talked about how we can make others feel welcomed, cared for, and safe. Ask me to give you an example. 
  • During Music, we played a beat pattern game. Ask me to tell you about it. 
  • For Literacy, we read a book called You Are Enough and talked about how everyone is different or unique but we all belong. Then, we designed a our own puzzle piece for our class puzzle. Ask me what I put on mine! 

  • For Math, we learned how to represent numbers in expanded form. Ask me to show you how to expand the number 64, 213 and 4, 891. 

  • This afternoon, we practiced our reading rotation stations. Ask me what ones I did today. 
  • For Makers Space, we read a book called Collaboration Station. We then designed a creation using a paper plate. Ask me what collaboration means and about my design.

  • On Thursday from 5:00 - 7:00pm it will be the Welcome to the New Year Open House. Families are welcome to drop in at anytime during the 2-hour period.
  • Friday is Orange Shirt Day

  Highlights This morning, we started our day with an Art project. To celebrate the World Cup, we designed our own soccer jerseys! Ask me to...
