Wednesday, Feb. 18

  Highlights:

  • This morning, we talked about the different ways we can grow! Ask me to tell you an example from each box below!
  • During Literacy, we learned about Ramadan! We read a story called Night of the Moon and had a few classmates share about the celebration. Ask me what I learned. 


  • This afternoon, we went on a Lunar New Year walk around the school to read riddles about the zodiac animals. Ask me to tell you about the activity. 

  • In Math, we started filling in our multiplication garden to practice our multiplication facts! Ask me to tell you my 1's, 2's, and 10's multiplication facts. We also started learning how the repeated addition strategy can help us solve multiplication questions. 

  • For Science, we learned how the earth can change gradually. We used Epic to research how wind and water change the Earth over time. Ask me to tell you what I learned!


  • We started learning our upper case cursive letters. Ask me what ones we learned today!


Reminders:
  • Tomorrow is Subway fun lunch and Mr. Pretzel treat day of those who have ordered. 
  • Remember to dress for the weather! There is a chance it will be warm enough to be outside tomorrow!

Tuesday, Feb. 17

 Highlights:

  • This morning, we had a special guest come into our school! Ask me to tell you about her and the book that she wrote. 

  • During Literacy, we learned about the Lunar New Year and created a scale for our NLS dragon. Ask me to tell you what I learned about the Lunar New Year. 
  • For Science, we used Epic to research a natural event in more detail. Ask me to tell you about the one I chose!
  • In Math, we learned a new math game called Fact Feud! Ask me to tell you how to play or show you if we have cards!
  • This afternoon, we drew a fire horse to represent the Lunar New Year. Around it, we included facts that we learned about the celebration.

  • It is cold outside! Please make sure everyone is dressed for the weather.

Highlights:

  • This morning, we decorated our valentine bags. Ask me what I put on it!

  • We did more Olympic games in P.E.
  • During Literacy, we read the book "Be Kind" and did a compliment activity with our class. Ask me to tell you about the activity!



  • We did our kindness message exchange. Ask me to show you my bag!
  • In Math, we practiced dividing using the array strategy. Ask me to show you how to use it for the questions below.

   Highlights:

  • This morning we read some of our class novel and practiced using our reading journals. Ask me tell you what happened!
  • In Music, we learned about black history month before practicing our song. Ask me one thing I learned. 
  • During Literacy, we learned about opinion writing. Ask me to tell you what opinion topic I chose to write about and the reasons I came up with. 
  • In Math, we started creating a multiplication garden to practice our basic facts. Ask me to show you the 0, 1, 2, and 10s basic facts.

  • Our class will be doing an optional kindness exchange for Valentines Day tomorrow. See our school website for more details about the exchange.

  Highlights:

  • This morning in Health, we created scribble art. Ask me to tell you how we did it. 
  • We did Olympic inspired relay races in P.E. Ask me to tell you about the 3 different race activities!
  • During Literacy, we read a book called "Love is" and created a visual journal page about what love means to each of us. Ask me what I wrote so far!

  • In Math, we learned a strategy called arrays that can help us solve multiplication and division questions! Ask me to tell you about the strategy and to show you how to use it!


  • We did our reading rotations. Ask me what stations I did today!
  • This afternoon we had some finish up time! Ask me to tell what I worked on.

Thursday, Feb. 5

 Highlights:

  • This morning in Health, we created a peaceful problem solving wheel. Ask me what strategies I included!
  • We played Literacy and Math games. Ask me what games I played. 
  • During Literacy, we learned about Black History month and read the book "Meet Viola  Desmond". Ask me who Viola Desmond was and what she did to make a difference!
  • In Math, we learned the strategy equal sharing to solve division questions. Ask me to show you how to used it to solve the questions below. 
  • During Science, we started learning about natural events that change the surface of the Earth immediately. Ask me to tell you what a natural event is and what ones we have learned about so far. 




Reminders:
  • Our class will be doing a kindness exchange for Valentines Day next week on Wednesday February 11. A class list will be sent home later this week. 

If you child would like to bring a message of kindness to other students we ask that you respect the following expectations: 
  • Each child in the class should receive a message if your child would like to send something.  (There is no expectation that your child will send a message, but we request that if your child does bring a note or Valentine that no student in their class is left out.) 
  • What is written is kind 
For safety reasons, no candy, chocolate or other food items can be handed out. (If your child brings any candy, chocolate or food items, they will be sent back home with them.) Thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

Highlights:

  • This morning in Health, we did "what should you do" conflict cards. Ask me to tell you about some of the conflicts and ways I could react. 
  • During P.E., we learned some new information about curling and played some games. Ask me what "takeout", "draw" and "guard" means.
  • During Literacy, we started our class novel "A Rover's Story". Ask me what has happened so far!
  • In Math, we practiced multiplication and division fact families. Ask me to give you the fact family for the picture below. 


  • This afternoon, we went on a  walk around the field to celebrate Winter Walk Day. Ask me what I saw and sketched.  


  • We created a layers of the Earth visual journal page. Ask me some facts I learned about the layers of the Earth.

  • Our class will be doing a kindness exchange for Valentines Day next week on Wednesday February 11. A class list will be sent home later this week.
