Tuesday, Sept. 29

Highlights:

• This morning, we made our orange ribbons for our Orange Shirt Day and hung up our leaves on the Tree of Reconciliation. Ask me what words I added to my ribbon. 

• We learned about an Indigenous artist during Music today. Ask me to tell you about his song and why it is important. 

• We played Battle Ship in P.E. Ask me to tell you about the new game. 
• We joined our buddies to hang our ribbons on the fence and do a buffalo walk! Ask me to tell you about the walk. 

• In Math, we practiced writing and reading numbers in expanded form. Ask how I feel about it. 
• We practiced our reading rotations this afternoon. Ask me what we did. 
• In Science, we reviewed the states of matter and watched a quick video. Ask me something that can be all three states of matter. 

Reminders:

• There is no school tomorrow.  
• As a part of our learning this year, we will be using technology. Students are welcome to bring wired headphones to use during these times. Please label with names. 

September 30th is a National Day for Truth and Reconciliation meant to commemorate the history and legacy of Residential Schools in Canada. On Tuesday, September 29th, students are encouraged to wear an orange shirt or something else with orange to recognize Orange Shirt Day and the National Truth and Reconciliation Day.


Students will be engaging in learning throughout the week to honor this important day. Through read alouds and learning tasks, students will focus on understanding what they each need to feel safe and cared for at school and to consider this question: “What action can each member of our school community do to make sure every student feels safe and cared for at school, everyday?” This is an opportunity for Northern Lights students and staff to come together in the spirit of reconciliation to show their support of a safe, respectful and caring school community.
