  Highlights:

• Today was PJ Day!

• This morning we cleaned out our bins for the winter break. Ask me if I brought anything home. 
• We finished our gingerbread art from yesterday. Ask me to tell you about it.

• We had our movie switch! Ask me what class I went to and what movie I watched!

• Today is the start of winter break. There is no school until January 5th. Have a great break and we will see you in the new year!

Tuesday, Dec. 16

   Highlights:

• During Morning Work, we continued to work on our How to Catch a Snowman procedural writing. Ask me if I finished!
• In P.E., we played a game called Snowman Battle. Ask me how to play.
• We worked on a special holiday project this morning. Stay tuned for the reveal!
• During Math, we learned a new math game called Subtraction Squares. Ask me how to play!

Monday, Dec. 15

  Highlights:

• This morning we continued to practice some lower case cursive letters. Today we learned f and m. We practiced making works with all the letters we have learned so far. Ask me if I can spell my name yet and to show you if we have unlocked all the letters. 

• We had Music today! Ask me what activities we did. 
• For Literacy, we read How to Catch a Snowman. We then designed our own snowman traps and started a procedural writing to explain our traps. Ask me what I designed!

• During Math, we did another round of stations before doing a check in for addition and subtraction. Ask me how I am feeling about it. 
• This afternoon, we added a new station for our reading rotations. Ask me to tell you about the station.

• In Science, we learned about contact forces. Ask me to tell you about the four different types.

Friday, Dec. 12

  Highlights:

• This morning we learned some more lowercase cursive letters. Ask me to show you some of the words we can now make with the letters we have learned so far!

• We played Freedom Frenzy today in P.E. Ask me what activities I did today. 
• For Literacy, we built the Elf traps we designed using MakerSpace materials. Ask me about my creation and if I had to change my design.  

• During Math, we did another round of stations to practice our addition and subtraction skills. Ask me what station I did today!
• This afternoon, we did a Grade 3 MakerSpace switch. Ask me what class I went to and what activities I did!

Thursday, Dec. 11

 Highlights:

• This morning we learned some lowercase cursive letters. Ask me what ones I learned today and to show you how to write some words with them!

• We had our last day of skipping in P.E. Ask me what my favourite part was. 
• For Literacy, we finished up our How to Catch an Elf writing. We also started How to Draw a _____ writing if we finished early. Ask me what I wrote today.
• Today we did stations to practice our addition and subtraction skills during Math. Ask me what stations I did today!

• For Social Studies, we reviewed some of the topics that we have learned so far. Ask me what we talked about today. 
• This afternoon, we finished making our holiday cards for seniors. Ask me what message I wrote in my card.

Wednesday, Dec. 10

Highlights:

• This morning we had Music. Ask me what we worked on today!
• We read a story called "How to Catch an Elf" during Literacy. After, we designed our own elf traps and started our how to catch an elf procedural writing. Ask me about my trap and how much I have written so far. 

• During Math we continued to learn how to solve addition and subtraction questions with regrouping. Today, we learned how to solve them using the break apart strategy. Ask me to tell you about my favourite strategy and to show you how to use it with the questions below!

• This afternoon, we started making winter cards for seniors to help spread kindness. Ask me what design I am working on!

     Highlights:

• This morning, we learned some new cursive letters. Ask me what ones we learned today!

• During P.E., we practiced group skipping! Ask me what skills I practiced. 
• In Literacy, we finished our "How to Build a Snowman" writing. Ask me what transition words I used. 
• During Math we learned how to solve addition and subtraction questions with regrouping using the base-10 and standard algorithm strategies. Ask me to tell you about each one.   

• For Social Studies, we did a check in! Ask me to tell you about the questions.

• Tomorrow is Wednesday Winter Wear Day. Students are welcome to wear anything festive (sweaters, t-shirts, hats, socks, etc.)

Monday, Dec. 8

    Highlights:

• This morning, we observed our melted snow from Friday. Ask me how it was different!
• During P.E., we practiced our skipping skills. Ask me what moves I tried today. 
• In Literacy, we started learning about Procedural writing. After reading a story, we wrote about "How to Build a Snowman" in our journals. Ask me to tell you what procedural writing is and what I included in my snowman writing. 

• During Math we learned how to play a new basic fact game called "Mobi". Ask me to tell you about the game. We also started learning about addition with regrouping. We used the Base-10 strategy today. Ask me how I feel about it. 

• For Social Studies, we learned about the treaties in Alberta. Ask me to tell you all of them!

Thursday, Dec. 4

  Highlights:

• This morning, we talked about different tools that we can use in each of the zones during Health.
• Ask me what new skills I learned during skipping!
• During Literacy, we learned what a prefix is and about the prefix "re-". Ask me to tell you what the prefix "re-" means and give you some examples of words that have it. 

• We created landscape art to connect with our learning about the regions in Alberta. Ask me to tell you about the project and what materials we used to create it. 

• In Science, we learned about Newton's First Law of Motion. Ask me to tell you what the law is!
• For Math, we practiced solving 3 digit addition and subtraction questions without regrouping. Ask me to show you how I solve the questions below.

Wednesday, Dec. 3

 Highlights:

• This morning, we worked on our silly sketches! Ask me what sketches I chose to draw!
• We practiced our skipping skills in P.E. Ask me what moves I tried. 
• Last week in Literacy, we designed water bottle stickers that represented important parts of our novel Third Grade Angels. Today, we wrote about why we chose each sticker and how it was important to the story. Ask me about my stickers. 
• For Math, we learned a new game called "Bonds, Math Bonds". Ask me how to play and what skills it helps me practice. We then reviewed the three addition and subtraction strategies that we used this week. Ask me to tell you about the different strategies and what one is my favourite!

• We started our new unit in Science! Today, we learned about motion and force. Ask me what those words mean and to give you an example of a push and pull.
