Thursday, Jan. 29

 Highlights:

  • This morning, we played math and literacy games. Ask me what I chose. 
  • We played Crazy Basketball in P.E. Ask me what this means and what objects we used. 
  • We finished the story we started yesterday and making our predictions. We then checked to see if our predictions were accurate or if they needed to be changed. Ask me to tell you what I predicted. 
  • During Art, we made an art appreciation visual journal page. Ask me what art I chose and the art elements in the paintings. 
  • For Literacy, we did a inferencing activity. Ask me to tell you about it and the inferences I made.

  • There is no school tomorrow!

Highlights:

  • This morning, we worked on finish up!
  • In P.E., we continued to play basketball games. Ask me if I scored today. 
  • During writing, we did would you rather silly prompts. Ask me what one I did and about the paragraph I wrote!
  • Today in Math, we did a SWYK for polygons. Ask me how I feel about it. 
  • For Literacy, we learned about predictions. We can make predictions before we read, during reading, and check them after. Ask me what predictions are. 
  • During Science, we finished our learning on forces. Ask me to tell you some of the things we learned!

Reminders:
  • There is no school on Friday.
  • Please bring an extra pair of clean clothes. As the weather is warming up, it is getting very wet and muddy outside.

  Highlights:

  • This morning, we worked on finish up and glued our tiny gratitude gallery into our visual journals. Ask me what I worked on today. 
  • We had music sharing today. Ask me if I shared!
  • During Literacy, we learned about making text-to-text and text-to-world connections. We read "Say Something" to practice making these connections. Ask me to tell you about the different types of connections and to give you an example. 
 
  • Today in Math, we finished our polygon hunt and did a naming polygon review! Ask me to compare the two shapes below.

  • During Social Studies, we did a show what you know. Ask me how I felt about it.

 Highlights:

  • This morning, we had a class meeting about visual journal expectations. We talked about the importance of finishing our work. Ask me how many pages I need to work on. 
  • In P.E., we played our first round of basketball games! Ask me what I need to remember to do!

  • During Literacy, we wrote a paragraph about our dream jobs. Ask me what I wrote.  
  • Today in Math, we did a polygon hunt! Ask me to tell what we did in the activity. 


  • During Social Studies, we learned about culture and made a visual journal page representing our cultures. Ask me what I added to mine. 
  • We made an Indigenous simple machines visual journal page for Science. Ask me about the tools I chose.

Highlights:

  • This morning, we worked on finishing our Socials Studies pages from yesterday. Ask me what I wrote about. 
  • In Music, we worked on our song and played a game. Ask me to tell you about it. 
  • During Literacy, we looked at more transition words in paragraphs and created a planning web for tomorrow. Ask me what our topic was and what is in my plan. 
  • Today in Math, we continued to practice sorting polygons based on their properties. Ask me to tell you how to sort the polygons based one the rules below. 

  • We learned about art appreciation today in Art. Ask me what my favourite is and to tell you about some of its elements (lines, colours, and feeling/mood)!

Highlights:

  • This morning, we started learning about peaceful ways to resolve conflicts during Health. Ask me to tell you about some of the ways I can resolve conflicts in a peaceful way. 
  • In P.E. we practiced our shooting skills. Ask me to show you how to shoot a basketball.
  • During Literacy, we practiced writing a paragraph about our favourite season using the planning web that we created last week. Ask me to tell you what I included in my writing!
  • Today in Math, we learned about polygons! Ask me to tell you the 3 things all polygons have in common. 

  • In Social Studies, we talked about immigration. Ask me what immigration means and what I learned so far. 
Reminders:
  • As the weather is warming up and the ice is melting around the school, students are reminded to wear waterproof boots and have an extra pair of socks and pants in their backpack.
  • Wellness forms are due back Jan. 27. If you haven't returned it yet, please do so as soon as possible. 
  • Opa and Mr. Pretzel fun lunch is on Thursday for those who ordered.

  Highlights:

  • This morning, we started our day with a "See, Think, Wonder" connected to social studies. Ask me to tell you what I wrote down in my journal. 
  • In Music, we worked on a colouring page connected to music appreciation. Ask me to tell you about it. 
  • During Literacy, we talked about how good readers make connections. We then learned how to make quick connections and deep connections. We read "A Bad Case of the Stripes" to practice making each kind. Ask me to tell you about the different types of connections and what connections I made!

  • We started learning about Geometry in Math! Today, we learned about parallel, perpendicular and intersecting lines. Ask me to show you the arm symbols for each one and to tell you about them. 
  • In Social Studies, we started learning about the early settlers in Alberta. Ask me to tell you one interesting fact from our discussion.

Highlights:

  • This morning, we talked about the size of different problems. 
  • We had Freedom Frenzy today in P.E. Ask me what activities we did!
  • During Science, we finished learning about simple machines! Ask me what machines we learned about today and to give you some examples of them. 

  • We reviewed some high frequency words together! So far, we have practiced reading 100 words! Our next job is to practice spelling them. Ask me to read some of the words below. 
  • In Social Studies, we learned about Francophone communities. We then designed our own map of a Francophone community. Ask me what my map looked like!

 Highlights:

  • This morning, we worked on our tiny gratitude gallery and social studies. Ask me what frames I drew in today!
  • In P.E., we practiced catching the basket balls. Ask me to show you the proper way to catch a basket ball. 
  • During Literacy, we learned about the relevant details in paragraphs. We then practiced making own relevant details using a web. Ask me about my topic sentence and what details I chose to support it. 


  • For Math, we did a target warm up before finishing our assessments and playing math games. Ask me what equations I made and what game I played. 


  • In Social Studies, we learned about important symbols for Métis culture. Ask me to tell you about one of the things we learned about. 

  • We created Métis dot art during Art! Ask me to tell you about the art form and to tell you what I made.

  • During Literacy, we talked about how to create rockin' beginnings for our paragraph writing. Ask me how to make some beginnings using the picture below. 




  • For Math, we did our warm up and then did the Provincial Math Assessment. Ask me to tell you what equations I made with the target below. 


  • In Social Studies, we learned about Métis communities. Ask me to tell you something I learned about one of the different communities.

  • A form was sent home regarding upcoming learning in the Wellness curriculum for grade 3. Please read through the letter and return the form by Jan. 27.

   Highlights:

  • This morning, we talked about small problems and big problems. Ask me to tell you what the difference is and to tell you about the scenarios below. 




  • In P.E., we did a dribble maze game to practice our skills. Ask me how I did!
  • During Literacy, we used the computers to fill out a NLS survey and then practiced our typing skills. Ask me to tell you about the survey and my typing!

  • We did a new warm up and our SWYK for addition and subtraction during Math. Ask me what equations I can make with the picture below and how I felt about the SWYK. 

  • In Science, we learned about more simple machines. Ask me what ones we did today and to give you some examples of each. 


Reminders:
  • Students are reminded to bring their library books back every 2 weeks to return or renew them at the library during literacy centres.
